Studio artist and owner of HYART Gallery in Madison, WI, Hiroko Yamada, earned her M.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studying Art Metal and Jewelry. She is an Honorary Fellow at University of Wisconsin-Madison, and currently teaches several metal courses at Madison College. Hiroko also teaches numerous workshops at many of the most prestigious craft schools and institutions; Penland School of Crafts (NC), Haystack Mountain School of Crafts (ME) , Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts (TN), Southern Illinois University, Kobe Designs University, and Kyoto Museum of Arts.
Hiroko has coordinated Penland’s Artist Exchange Program for the past 3 years. Thus allowing instructors to visit from Japan and the US, and exchange techniques to enhance culture. In addition, Hiroko has directed Penland artists as a curator for exhibits in Japan; such as Penland Contemporary Jewelry, and the North American Mokume Gane Artists in Japan 2016.
